Triatoma hegneri Mazzotti, 1940: 22 View in CoL ; Usinger, 1944: 55; Lent & Wygodzinsky, 1979: 241; Carcavallo et al., 2000: 69; Galvão et al., 2003: 10; Schofield & Galvão, 2009: 92; Monteiro et al., 2013: e70974, 2018: 284; de la Rúa et al. 2014: 164. Triatoma dimidiata hegneri View in CoL ; Bargues et al., 2008: e233; Justi et al. 2018: 147.

Diagnosis. Adult body length 28.0–29.0 mm. Anteocular region three times as long as postocular region. Postocular region with sides subparallel, slightly converging toward behind. First antennal segment does not attain level of apex of clypeus. Discal and lateral tubercles small but distinct. Corium yellow, with large central dark spot of variable size and apex. Membrane of hemelytra smoky brown. Connexivum uniformly dark, or with small orange yellow spot on posteroexternal angle, extending onto connexival suture. Venter uniformly dark.

Specimens examined. None.

Distribution. Mexico: Quintana Roo ( Galvão et al. 2003).

Comments. Molecular phylogenies based on ITS-2, mitochondrial, and SNPs data consistently recover T. hegneri nested within T. dimidiata (groups I and II sensu Bargues et al. 2008; Bargues et al. 2008; Monteiro et al. 2013; de la Rúa et al. 2014; Justi et al. 2018). It has been suggested that T. hegneri may be an insular chromatic variant of T. dimidiata ( Bargues et al. 2008; Mas-Coma & Bargues 2009; Justi et al. 2018); however, we agree with the full-species treatment of T. hegneri ( Lent & Wygodzinsky 1979; Monteiro et al. 2013; de la Rúa et al. 2014). For details of taxonomic arrangements see comments of T. dimidiata .
