Pseudosparna Mermudes & Monné View in CoL gen. nov.

Type-species: Pseudosparna luteolineata Mermudes & Monné sp. nov.

Description. Form small, elongate. Head moderately prominent; eyes finely granulate; upper lobes narrow, separated by, at least, five times width of one lobe; lower lobes almost as long as genae. Antennal tubercles slightly elevate. Antennae slender, 11 segmented. Scape elongate, slightly dilated towards apex, with sparse hairs on ventral surface; segment 3 subequal to scape; 4 about as long as 3, segments from 5 gradually shortened; 11, 1.5 times as long as 10. Prothorax with parallel sides, with a tubercle at posterior third of each side. Prosternal and mesosternal processes very narrow, about 1/5 as wide as pro- and mesocoxae, respectively. Elytra elongate, parallel-sided, about three times as long as width across humeri; with short setae on entire surface or only at posterior half of lateral margins; without basal tubercle or carinae; apices acuminate, outer angles spinose. Anterior coxae rounded and prominent. Femora elongate, fusiform or subclavate. First segment of posterior tarsus as long as two following together.

Etymology. Pseudo means false, and Sparna , a genus of the tribe Colobotheini . Gender feminine.

Remarks. This genus is characterized by the prothorax with lateral tubercles at basal third; pronotum without tubercles; elytra elongate, about three times as long as the humeral width, without longitudinal carinae or median crista near base; with setae on the entire elytral surface or restricted to the posterior half of the external margins; prosternal and mesosternal processes very narrow; and the first segment of metatarsi as long as the two following combined. Pseudosparna is related to Piezochaerus Melzer, 1932 , but differs by the elongate scape, which is slightly dilated towards the apex; and by the structure of the prosternal and mesosternal processes, which are very narrow. In Piezochaerus the scape is not dilated towards the apex, and the intercoxal processes are half as wide as the respective coxae. Pseudosparna also has a superficial similarity with Sparna Thomson, 1864 , a genus of the tribe Colobotheini , but the elytra are not expanded toward the apices, and lack the dorsal and epipleural longitudinal carinae.
