Galeodes araneoides turkestanus Kraepelin 1899 View in CoL
Fig. 19 A –C View FIGURE 19
Kraepelin 1899: 202 (as G. araneoides turkestanus n. var.)
Type locality and specimens. So in Turkestan.
Oldest label. Galeodes araneoides turkestanus Krpln , ♀, Mus Berlin, 27.vii.99, Neu Margelan, Turkestan (Kraepelin handwriting).
Dimensions. Not mentionned. [26.05: 31.02]
Type material. Lectotype ♀ designated here (ZMH-A0000200).
Taxonomic remarks. Kraepelin describes the morphology of both sexes but does not give the number of specimens he examined and a very general locality “Turkestan”. In 1901, he re-described the female but also commented on the coloration of both sexes. The female specimen at ZMH clearly is part of the type series. There is a male paratype ( Zilch 1946) at the SMF (catalog no. 9903357) with the locality data ( Usbekistan Bochara: Turan) and 1♀ syntype (catalog no. 8812) in ZMB ( Moritz & Fischer 1980) from the locality Neu Margelan, Turkestan. They may also be part of the type series.
Collection remarks. Interestingly, the original label reads Neu Margelan in Turkestan. Neu-Margelan actually refers to the town of Ferghana (Fargʻona) in the Fergana Region of eastern Uzbekistan, which should be treated as the type locality (not Kazakhstan as in Harvey 2013).
Current systematic position. Galeodidae , Galeodes turkestanus Kraepelin 1899 .
