Fig. 7 A –C View FIGURE7

Roewer 1933: 388–389, figs 275a1–a2 ( Bitonota kraepelini nov. spec.)

Type locality and type specimens. nur ♂ —Somaliland (Ginir Daua), Abessinien (Dire Daua)—(vidi 2 ♂, inkl. Kraepelin Expl.).

Dimensions. Körperlänge 8 mm. [8.25; 10.46]

Oldest label. Daesia brunnipes Poc , ♂, cv. Erlanger, d. X.1902, Ginir Dana III-V.1901, Somaliland (Kraepelin handwriting).

Additional label. Bitonota kraepelini n. g. n. sp. 1♂ —Typus—Somal–Ginir Dana, revid. 1931. Roewer—No 8244 (Roewer handwriting).

Type material. Lectotype ♂ here designated (ZMH-A0000173).

Taxonomic remarks. Roewer (1933: 388) mentions that Kraepelin (1903: 576) misidentified the species and described it as a new species in honor of Kraepelin. The data found in Kraepelin (1903) matches the label (Ginir- Dana, März-Mai 1901 (1♂ Erl.), and therefore refer to this specimen. Roewer mentions seeing two males, including the one from Kraepelin. The male from Abessinien (Dire Dana) was not located in other German collections ( SMF, ZMB) and we designate the ZMH specimen as the lectotype.

Collection remarks. The specimen was collected by Carlo Freiherr von Erlanger during his expedition (1899– 1901) to then-unexplored Somaliland and East Africa. The type locality probably refers to the town of Ginir in southeastern Ethiopia and the term Daua probably refers to the Oromo dhawaa. The travel records state that Erlanger travelled the ‘ Flussgebiet des Darli bei Ginir am Ganale’ (Ganale Doria River) on the 0 7.0 3.1901.

Current systematic position. Daesiidae , Bitonota kraepelini Roewer 1933 .
