Octothrips comprises three species from Asia, but only bhatti is known from China. It is similar to Neocorynothrips and Trichromothrips , with ocellar setae I absent, and antennal segment I with dorso-apical setae. Octothrips species can be distinguished by the head and pronotum ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 31–39 ) with strong sculpture, the median pair of tergal setae arising close together, the sternal marginal setae arising anterior to the margin, and abdominal tergites II–VIII with a cluster of setae laterally ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 40–50 ).
Specimens examined. China, Yunnan, Menglun Town, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanic Garden , 4 females and 3 males from fern, 24.x.2017 (Hongrui Zhang & Yajin Li) .
