General distribution. Palaearctic Region, reaching from Ireland and north-western Africa to Central Asia, northern China, and Russian Far East ( Polhemus 1995 a, Protić 1998, Kanyukova 2008).

Comment. Seidenstücker (1963) regarded N. dollfusi as a senior synonym of N. sardiniensis Hungerford, 1928 . This synonymy was not accepted by Nieser (1978), and N. sardiniensis remains a valid species endemic to Corsica and Sardinia ( Polhemus 1995a). Polhemus et al. (1994) synonymized N. dollfusi with N. cinerea (see also Polhemus 1995a).
