This species superficially resembles Tabanus mordax Austen 1911 , but it can be distinguished by the presence of R 4 appendix and less elevated subcallus ( Abu El-Hassan et al. 2013). It is Afrotropical species, widely distributed in eastern Africa from northeast to south, in addition to Cameroun, Ethiopia, Namibia, and northern Nigeria (Oldroyed 1954). This species is known from Oman and Saudi Arabia ( Leclercq 1986; Abu El-Hassan et al. 2013).
