It is a Mediterranean species from Spain to Turkey (Krčmar 2011). In Europe, it was recorded from Southwest and Southeast ( Chvála et al. 1972). The species resembles Philipomyia aprica (Meigen 1820) , which was considered conspecific with graeca by Leclercq (1967). However, the two species differ in female callus, antenna, and palpus ( Chvála et al. 1972). This species is known from Jordan ( Müller et al. 2011).
