Cicada spoliata Walker 1858a: 36 View in CoL . (Unknown locality)

REMARKS. Carineta spoliata is a monochromatic green or pallid species with a slight bronzing in the apex of the fore wings. Female body lengths are about 26 mm. It can be distinguished from C. acommosis n. sp. by the slightly smaller body size, the female operculum is approximately square with a medial extension instead of triangular, the longer and thinner tertiary spine of the fore femora, and the wider notch in female sternite VII that terminates in a triangular extension rather than a curved medial margin to the extension tip like in that new species. It can be distinguished from C. apicalis by the female operculum having a sinuate posterior margin, the longer and thinner tertiary spine of the fore femora, and the notch in female sternite VII terminates in a pointed extension continuous with the medial margin in that species. Carineta maracayensis can be distinguished by the wider posterior prothorax, straight posterior margin of the male operculum, radiating piceous pile, curving basal portion of the abdomen, and the single point of the basal pygofer lobe appendage. Finally, C. tingomariaensis n. sp. by the narrower posterior prothorax and the parallel sides of the abdomen in C. spoliata .

DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963c; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Dorval et al. 2011; Sanborn 2013; 2019b; Dias et al. 2017; Maccagnan et al. 2018). Jacobi (1907; 1951) reported the species from Chanchamayo and Callanga in Peru.
