TYPE MATERIAL. Holotype. “ PERU: San Martin Dept. / Moyabamba, vic. / Ecológico “ Rumipata ” / 13–18-X-2012 J. E. Eger // S 06º 04’32.0”, W / 076º 58’ 07.5” 970 / m, MV & UV Light” male ( FSCA) GoogleMaps . Paratypes. Same data as holotype, one male ( AFSC) .

ETYMOLOGY. The name is a combination of quadro - (L. quadro, quartet) and - fastigiata (L., fastigo, bring to a point, sharpen) in reference to the four points on the broad terminus of the basal pygofer lobe appendage in this species.

REMARKS. This is a tawny species marked with piceous that is very similar in general appearance and coloration to C. digitata n. sp. and C. tricuspis n. sp. differing primarily in the shape of the basal pygofer lobe appendage.

DESCRIPTION. Ground color tawny marked with piceous, castaneous marking on dorsal abdomen. The mesothorax is greenish-tawny. The paratype has greenish-tawny dorsolateral abdominal segments and pronotal midline suggesting the tawny regions may be greenish-tawny in fresh specimens.

Head. Head not as wide as mesonotum, ground color with lateral ocelli surrounded by piceous medially and posteriorly, piceous posterior to eye. Ocelli rosaceous, eyes ochraceous. Dorsal head radiating dense, long piceous pile, long silvery pile posterior to eye. Ventral head ochraceous with piceous posteromedial margin of lorum. Postclypeus ochraceous ventrally, tawny dorsally, centrally sulcate from anterior to posteroventral margin to apex, with ten transverse ridges, short silvery pile on lateral margin, radiating long piceous pile, denser on dorsal surface. Anteclypeus ochraceous. Ventral head and lateral anteclypeus with short silvery and long white pile, radiating long piceous pile. Mentum ochraceous, labium greenish ochraceous proximally with piceous lateral stripe and distal region, tip castaneous, reaching to anterior of hind coxae. Scape castaneous with tawny distal margin, proximal pedicel tawny, remaining antennal segments piceous.

Thorax. Dorsal thorax ground color. Pronotum unmarked radiating long piceous pile. Pronotal collar ground color radiating long piceous pile. Mesonotum greenish-tawny, piceous marks outlining submedian sigillae, expanding in posterior of submedian sigilla, expanding along medial margin in paratype, piceous mark anterior to anterior arms of cruciform elevation including scutal depressions laterally, extending anteriorly along midline terminating between posterior submedian sigillae, lateral margin of mesonotum piceous, mark expanding to cover posterior mesonotum, piceous spot on anterior wing groove. Metanotum ground color with piceous spot on anterolateral margin. Long silvery pile between anterior arms of cruciform elevation, posterior to anterior arms of cruciform elevation, on lateral mesothorax, posterior mesothorax, radiating from posterior wing groove, and on posterior metanotum. Long piceous pile radiating from mesothorax. Ventral thoracic segments ochraceous with long and short silvery pile, radiating long piceous pile of anepisternum 2 and katepisternum 2 in holotype.

Wings. Fore wings and hind wings hyaline, with eight and six apical cells respectively. Venation ground color, becoming piceous distally, except piceous proximal and castaneous distal anal vein 2 + 3, pterostigma present. Paired linear infuscation in apical cells. Wing margin infuscated, marginal area with linear infuscations appearing to extend from apical cells. Basal membrane grayish. Hind wing venation ground color becoming piceous distally, except castaneous median vein, cubitus posterior, anal vein 2 and anal vein 3. Anal vein 3 very short, about one quarter the length of anal vein 2, forming small anal cell 3 and plaga. Anal cell 3 and plaga gray, anal cell 2 along anal veins 2 and 3, anal cell 1 along anal vein 2 margined with gray. Wing margin infuscated.

Legs. Ground color except castaneous tip of distal pretarsus, and distal pretarsal claws, long silvery pile radiating from legs. Fore femora with proximal spine longest, forming an acute angle, secondary spine angled slightly more than primary spine, about as long as tertiary spine, tertiary spine almost upright, and very small apical spine emerging from distal base of tertiary spine. Spines castaneous with darker tip. Tibial spurs and comb castaneous with dark castaneous tips. Meracanthus broadly triangular, ochraceous with piceous base, reaching anterior of medial opercular margin.

Opercula. Male operculum ochraceous with piceous base covered with long silvery pile, lateral margin curved, bent dorsally on lateral body, sinuate posterior margin, roughly rectangular with finger-like posteromedial extension, rounded medial margin, not meeting medially, not reaching medial meracanthus, not covering tympanum, reaching to anterior of lateral sternite II, sinuous with right angle laterally when viewed from the posterior.

Abdomen. Abdominal tergites ground color with castaneous dorsum and piceous posterior margin, tergites covered with short silvery pile, long silvery pile surrounding timbal cavity, long piceous pile radiating from lateral tergites 6–7 and all of tergite 8. Timbal exposed, white marked with castaneous, only timbal plate visible. Male sternites ground color radiating silvery pile, very dense on midline of tergite II, epipleurites ground color, with silvery pile.

Genitalia. Male pygofer ground color, anteroventral margin and posterior margin around distal shoulder piceous, upper pygofer lobes ochraceous, dorsal beak castaneous with piceous lateral margins. Dorsal beak narrow, not as long as castaneous anal styles. Pygofer basal lobe about half-length of pygofer, curved mediad with medially rounded apex radiating dense golden pile. Upper pygofer lobes adpressed to pygofer, not reaching distal shoulder, bent at approximate right angle near base, with dense long golden pile radiating from terminus. Claspers small, curved laterally with straight medial margin forming knob-like extension dorsally, radiating long golden pile. Basal lobe appendage wide at base curving at right angle, narrowing in middle with large, flattened expanded terminus exhibiting four points, a large extension posteriorly, a short extension proximodorsally and a short extension with two points between the proximal and distal extensions. Aedeagus tubular, castaneous.

Female is unknown.

MEASUREMENTS (MM). N = two males, mean (range). Length of body: 16.03 (15.85–16.20); length of fore wing: 19.70 (19.05–20.35); width of fore wing: 6.98 (6.95–7.00); length of head: 2.98 (2.95–3.00); width of head including eyes: 5.20 (5.15–5.25); width of pronotum including suprahumeral plates: 6.58 (6.50–6.65); width of mesonotum: 5.40 (5.30–5.50).

DIAGNOSIS. This is the second of the three species of small Carineta that possess mesothoracic markings and lack prothoracic markings including along with C. digitata n. sp. and C. tricuspis n. sp. Carineta digitata n. sp. can be distinguished by the primarily castaneous abdomen, reduced markings on the medial submedian sigillae, anterior and lateral mesothoracic margins, the parallel fore femora spines, and the two finger-like extensions on the end of the basal pygofer lobe appendage found in this species. Similarly, C. tricuspis n. sp. can be distinguished by the reduced piceous markings on the anterior and lateral mesothoracic margins, the lateral margin of the timbal forms an obtuse angle with the posterior timbal margin when viewed from the posterior, and the three points on the terminus of the basal pygofer lobe appendage found in this species.

DISTRIBUTION. The species is known from the type locality in Peru.
