Type host. Macropus giganteus Shaw (Marsupialia: Macropodidae ).
Other hosts. Macropus rufus (Desmarest) .
Site in host. Subcutaneous connective tissue.
Other material examined. From: Macropus giganteus: QLD : 1♀, ( N5221 ) Woodbine Station .
From Macropus rufus: QLD : 1♀, ( N46 ) Richmond .
Distribution and hosts. Breinlia (B.) dentonensis is known only from the grey and red kangaroo in central Queensland.
Remarks. Breinlia (B.) dentonensis is one of three filarioid species which may co–occur in subcutaneous connective tissues of macropodoids in eastern Australia, but its very small size (males 19–25, females 35–44 mm long) relative to B. (J.) annulipapillata and particularly female Pelecitus roemeri renders it difficult to detect. It is readily distinguished from these two larger species by the morphology of the right and left spicules, characteristic of members of the subgenus Breinlia . The species is not known from macropodoids in Western Australia where B. (J.) annulipapillata , Pelecitus roemeri and P. cf. roemeri may co-occur in the subcutaneous connective tissues of red kangaroos and euros.
