Range: —Throughout moist montane regions of tropical America, Mexico to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC) and northern Argentina.

Ecology: —Common; terrestrial in clearings, road banks, open habitats, and secondary scrub in upper montane forests; 1000–3500 m.
