Taxonomic history. After its description, Opsiphanes fabricii camposi Bristow, 1991 stat. nov. was considered a subspecies of Opsiphanes invirae .

Type material. Opsiphanes cassina camposi Bristow, 1991 was described based on the holotype female, deposited at the NHMUK, with the following labels: / Typus / Type / Ecuador Balzapamba e. c. H. Stichel / aequatorialis ♀ / Rothschild Bequest B.M. 1939-1./ This is not aequatorialis Stichel (see Bristow in press). Selected as holotype of O. cassina camposi Bristow / ( Fig. 185 View FIGURE 185 ).

Diagnosis. Opsiphanes fabricii camposi Bristow, 1991 stat. nov. differs from Opsiphanes fabricii fabricii and Opsiphanes fabricii numatius stat. nov. in that the female has a whitish or light-yellow oblique band on the DFW. Males of these subspecies are indistinguishable ( Figs 176–177 View FIGURE 176 View FIGURE 177 ).

Variation. FW, length: male: 32–39 mm (n=6), female: 40–47 mm (n=4). The band inside the DFW discal cell may have the posterior margin with a diffuse spot, projecting toward the posterior margin of the discal cell; in females, the color of the bands ranges from whitish to light-yellow and may have different shades in the same specimen. DHW, length of the spot near the distal margin of the humeral cell, sometimes reaching and merging with the submarginal band. VFW, males may vary in size, shape, and color of the spot on CuA 1 -CuA 2 near the discal cell; the width, length, and color of the oblique band; and the EIII submarginal line may or may not reach CuA 2. VHW, the size and shape of the eyespot between Sc+R 1 and M 1, and the width of its dark-brown ring; and the size and shape of the eyespot between M 3 and CuA 2 ( Figs 176–177 View FIGURE 176 View FIGURE 177 ).

Comments. Opsiphanes fabricii camposi stat. nov. is sympatric with Opsiphanes periphetes stat. nov.

Natural history. See Checa & Torres (2019).

Host plants: Arecaceae : Weittinia sp.

Geographic distribution. Ecuador (Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Bolívar , Guayas) ( Fig. 181 View FIGURE 181 ), at altitudes between sea level and 850 m.

Temporal distribution. March, May–August, November.

Etymology. Likely a tribute to Francisco Campos, self-employed lepidopterologist and author of articles on Opsiphanes from Ecuador.
