COMMON NAME (S): African Hummingbird Hawkmoth or African Humming Bird Hawkmoth. SYNONYM(S): Rhamphoschisma fasciatum Wallengren, 1858 ; Macroglossum trochiloides Butler, 1875c View in CoL . IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE). DISTRIBUTION: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho,
Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Togo, Tanzania,
Uganda, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Lusaka, in Lusaka Province; Barotseland area [now Western Province area]. LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants include: one Rubiaceae species ( Oldenlandia corymbosa L.) in Côte d’Ivoire ( Vuattoux et al. 1989), two Rubiaceae species ( Galium sp. , and Rubia sp. ) in South Africa ( Pinhey 1975) and one
Rubiaceae species ( Galium aparine L.) in Saudi Arabia ( Wiltshire 1986). No larval foodplants have been reported for Zambia in the literature.
Three Rubiaceae species ( Galium aparine L., Rubia cordifolia L. and Oldenlandia corymbosa L.) and one Poaceae species ( Oryza sativa L.) are listed as larval foodplants for the taxon on the African Moths (2019) webpage.
