Mangelia taeniata ( Deshayes 1835) View in CoL

( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 )

Pleurotoma teniata Deshayes 1835: 178 View in CoL , pl. 19, figs 37–39.

Materials: 20.09.1995, Izmir Bay, Aegean Sea , rocky habitat with algae, 0–2 m, 1 spm ( ESFM- GAS/95-111 About GAS ) ; 08. 10. 2005, Kuşadası , rocky habitat, 0.1–3 m, 1 spm ( ESFM-GAS/2005-105 ) ; 05.04.2017, Eski Foça, Aegean Sea , P. oceanica , 8 m, 1 sh. ( ESFM-GAS/2017-91 ) .

Remarks: M. taeniata has a shell with a paucispiral protoconch with erected nucleus. The sculpture on the teleoconch whorls consists of thick axial ribs only (on the body whorl 9–10 ribs). In adult specimens, posterior sinus deep, labial varix developed. The species can be easily distinguished from congeneric ones by its shell and protoconch shapes and color patterns. According to Scarponi & Della Bella (2010:89), the species should be considered within the genus Lyromangelia based on its shell and radular characters. But later the genus Lyromangelia was synonymized with the genus Mangelia (Bouchet et al. 2011) .

Distribution: Eastern Atlantic Ocean (near the Strait of Gibraltar) ( GBIF 2020). Mediterranean Sea ( Cachia et al. 2001). Turkish coasts: Levantine and Aegean Seas (Özt̹rk et al. 2014).
