Description. Almost entirely reddish-brown, head frequently distinctly darker than pronotum. Elytra usually narrowly, indistinctly, transversely obscured in middle.

Body 5.30–6.94 mm long (HPL = 1.71–1.96 mm). Head of nearly ovoid shape, somewhat narrowed posteriad, 0.65–0.82 mm long, 0.65–0.73 mm wide, slightly longer than wider (HW:HL = 0.80–1.00). Tempora 0.41–0.49 mm long, almost evenly rounded, sparsely and largely punctate, setiferous; eyes very small, flat, 0.16–0.25 mm long, 0.33–0.60 times as long as tempora. Dorsal surface of head with scattered, variably large setiferous punctures along lateral sides, vertex largely impunctate; entire head with distinct and profound microsculpture of oblique waves. Antennae moderately long, 1st segment very long, thickened towards apex, 3rd segment almost as long as 2nd, 4th–5th segments almost as long as wide, 6th–10th segments distinctly transverse, last segment distinctly longer than wide, obliquely truncated.

Pronotum subparallel-sided, slightly narrowed anteriad and posteriad, 0.82–0.90 mm long, 0.65–0.73 mm wide, almost as wide as head (PW:HW = 0.89–1.13), dorsal rows each with six punctures; entire surface with microsculpture similar to that on head.

Elytra moderately long, slightly widened posteriad, 0.82–0.90 mm long, 0.98–1.06 mm wide, along sides 0.90–1.10 times as long as pronotum (in most specimens shorter than), densely and finely punctate, punctures separated by 1–2 times their diameter. Scutellum moderately large, triangular, densely and finely punctate and pubescent.

Abdomen slightly narrowed posteriad, widest 0.98–1.06 mm, finely and closely punctate, punctures separated by less than one puncture diameter at base, gradually becoming sparser toward apex of each tergite; surface between punctures with exceedingly fine and dense microsculpture of transverse striae; tergites III–V with two basal lines, elevated area between basal lines impunctate.

Male. Sternite VIII with wide, moderately deep, triangular medio-apical emargination, filled by semimembranous extension ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 E). Genital segment with styli of tergite IX simple, moderately setose apically. Sternite IX largely membranous at medio-apical portion, basal portion narrow and moderately long, more or less symmetrical, apical portion split apically into two pubescent lobes ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 D). Tergite X simple, triangular, subtruncated at apex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 F).

Aedeagus with median lobe broadest approximately at level of apex of paramere, apical portion triangular, narrowed into obtusely rounded apex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A); in lateral view, apical portion distinctly bent dorsad ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 B); paramere much shorter than median lobe, apical margin bisinuate, with shallow, triangular medial emargination, face adjacent to median lobe with sensory peg setae, closely arranged along apical margin of paramere ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 C), both median lobe and paramere are slightly variable.

Female. Sternite VIII arcuate at apex, without medio-apical emargination. Genital segment with styli of tergite IX similar to that of male. Tergite X with slightly emarginate apex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 G).

Remarks. The new species belongs to the G. astutus group; because of the genital characters and the characteristic shape of the male sternite IX. Due to the very short elytra and reddish color, it may not be confused with any known species of that group.

Distribution. The species is at present known only from China (Ningxia and Shaanxi).

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Chinese word hong (red), and refers to the almost entirely reddish-brown body.
