Type material. CHINA, Hunan Province: Holotype GoogleMaps female from Changde City, Shimen County, Hupingshan National Nature Reserve   GoogleMaps , 30.11°N, 110.78°E, 1395 m, 16 June 2017, Y. Zhong & Y. Zhu leg. ( CBEE, LJ05027 ). Paratype: 1 female, with same data as for holotype ( CBEE, LJ05440 ) GoogleMaps .

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the type locality, the Hupingshan National Nature Reserve; adjective.

Diagnosis. The female of P. hupingensis Zhang, Jäger & Liu , spec. nov. is similar to that of P. gibberosa Zhang et al., 2013 ( Zhang et al. 2013a) by the parallel IDS situated medially and posteriad, but can be distinguished by anterior margins of LL only slightly curved (anterior margins of LL strongly curved and forming a “W” in P. gibberosa ).

FEMALE ( LJ 05027): Measurements: Small sized. Body length 8.6–9.4, DS length 3.7, width 3.6, OS length 5.7, width 4.9. Eyes: AME 0.12, ALE 0.29, PME 0.20, PLE 0.23, AME–AME 0.17, AME–ALE 0.08, PME– PME 0.24, PME–PLE 0.34, AME–PME 0.30, ALE–PLE 0.27, CH AME 0.37, CH ALE 0.33. Spination: Pp 131, 101, 2121, 1014; Fe I–III 323, IV 331; Pa I–IV 100; Ti I–II 2228, III–IV 2126; Mt I–II 2024, III 2026, IV 3036. Measurements of palps and legs: Pp 5.6 (1.6, 0.8, 1.1, –, 2.1); I 13.7 (4.1, 1.5, 3.8, 3.2, 1. 1); II 16.5 (4.5, 1.7, 4.9, 4.0, 1.4); III 11.7 (3.8, 1.3, 3.0, 2.6, 1.0); IV 13.3 (4.2, 1.1, 3.2, 3.5, 1.3). Leg formula: II-I-IV-III. Cheliceral furrow with ca. 36 denticles.

Epigyne ( Figs 126A–C View FIGURE 126 ): As in diagnosis. EF wider than long, AB indistinct. Anterior margins of LL widely bilobed, roughly parallel to posterior margins. Posterior part of FW covered by LL in dorsal view.

Colouration ( Figs 127A–B View FIGURE 127 ): DS yellow with dark spots and lines, margin with thin dark line. Fovea and striae marked. OS dorsally yellow with reddish marks and patterns, with white tiny guanine crystals at anterior part. OS ventrally with few reddish dots arranged in two rows and fused in front of spinnerets.
