Canthidium nanum Harold, 1867a: 51 View in CoL [here transferred to the subgenus Canthidium View in CoL ]. Type locality: Colombia (“Columbien”). Type material: Location of syntypes unknown. Distribution: Colombia (?) [The Colombia type locality was mentioned by Harold (1867a, 1869a) and Gillet (1911), but, inexplicably, Martínez & Halffter (1986a) stated that C. nanum View in CoL would be restricted to the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. Also mysterious is the fact that this species was not included in Blackwelder’s (1944) catalogue. Although this species was included without further comments by Vaz-de-Mello (2000) in his list of the Brazilian dung beetles, I decided to follow Harold’s (1867a) original description and cite with doubts the distribution of this species only for Colombia].
