Canthidium (Neocanthidium) quadridens Harold, 1867 View in CoL

Canthidium quadridens Harold, 1867b: 73 View in CoL [here transferred to the subgenus Neocanthidium View in CoL ]. Type locality: Peru: Loreto: Mariscal Ramón Castilla: Pebas, the Upper Amazon River (“Oberes Gebiet des Amazorenstromes, Pebas (Bates!)”). Type material: Unknown number of syntypes (MNHN—ex Bates collection). Distribution: Peru ( Harold 1867b, 1869a) [the geographical distribution of this species is very confusedly reported throughout the literature. Harold (1867b, 1869a) clearly states his specimens were collected by Henry Walter Bates in Pebas, Peru. Without explanation, Gillet (1911) and Blackwelder (1944) cited the species only from Mexico and Martínez & Halffter (1986a) cited the species only from Bolivia. Here I decided to follow Harold’s original report since there is no evidence suggesting it is wrong. It is also noteworthy that neither Kohlmann (2003) nor Kohlmann & Solís (2006a) included C. quadridens View in CoL is their studies of Mexican Canthidium View in CoL ].
