( Figs 14 View FIGURE 14 B, 16N–R)

Bulimus tetensii Dunker 1875: 29 View in CoL . Type locality: Colombia, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Type material: not located. Plekocheilus tetensii (Dunker) ; Richardson 1995: 319 (references).

Material. Cesar, Rio Guatapurí, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta: USNM 599530 (8000–9000 ft [~ 2400–2700 m], Carriker leg./1946, as Plekocheilus coloratus lamarckianus ), USNM 599524, partim (12000 ft [~ 3600 m], as P. coloratus subplicatus ), USNM 599525 (as P. coloratus subplicatus ); La Guajira, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Páramos de Macotama, 10000–15000 ft [~ 3000–4500 m], Carriker leg.: ANSP 151815; Cerro Pintado, Sierra de Perijá, 10300–10600 ft [~ 3090–3180 m], Carriker leg./1942, all as P. (E.) piperatoides : FMNH 62362; USNM 488807, USNM 488808 [Label indicates one specimen was collected at 9000 ft], MCZ 183872); Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, “northern slope, above Pueblo vigio [Pueblo Viejo], 1400 m:” ZMB 39226 [considered as topotypes by Köhler 2007: 127, fig. 6]; Magdalena, Cuchilla Güinue, Cleef et al. leg./1977, in páramo vegetation ( Calamagrostis sp. dominant) ( Breure 1977, 1984): RMNH (Filo Alto La Cumbre, 3700m), ICNB (3000 m).

Altitudinal range. 1400–4500 m. If the material has been correctly labeled, this represents the highest elevation reported here for species of Plekocheilus and Dryptus .

Remarks. We consider Köhler’s decision (2007) to regard specimens from Pueblo Viejo as topotypes as somewhat arbitrary, as there is no evidence that Dunker’s specimens originate from that specific locality. The specimens from Sierra de Perijá, Cerro Pintado are tentatively referred to this species, as they differ in being smaller and having the lip and parietal callus pink.
