( Figs 8 View FIGURE 8 G–I, 9D)
Bulimus taquinensis Pfeiffer 1855c: 290 View in CoL . Type locality: Colombia, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Taquina, 2700 m. Lectotype BMNH 1957.6.3.1 (Crowley and Pain 1958). Plekocheilus taquinensis (Pfeiffer) ; Richardson 1995: 322 (references).
Material. La Guajira, Taquina: BMNH 1957.6.3.1–3 (type material).
Remarks. This species is known only from the type locality, which we have been able to locate with the help of Simmons (1981) and Todd and Carriker (1922). According to the latter, Taquina is located at 7000 feet [~ 2130 m]. Simmons has this locality as one of seven Indian villages “on the upper course of Rio Ancha [Ancho].” In his maps, Taquina is located just northeast of and at a somewhat lower elevation than Macotama (corresponding to pl. 1 in Todd and Carriker 1922), which is labeled as 9000 feet [~ 2740 m] ( Simmons 1981); coordinates approx. 10°55’02”N 73°29’47”W. The holotype was figured for the first time by Crowley and Pain (1958), who also mentioned two paratypes and two additional specimens collected by Pain “in the vicinity of the type locality” in 1939.
