( Figs. 1–8 View Fig View Fig View Figs ) Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil

Aleochara repetita Sharp 1887: 776 View in CoL (original description). Type locality: “ Panama, San Feliz; Amazons, Pará” ( Sharp 1887).

Aleochara (Baryodma) repetita: Bernhauer and Scheerpeltz 1926: 783 View in CoL (listing).

Aleochara (Coprochara) repetita: Caron et al. 2008: 834 View in CoL (cited).

Type Material. Syntype ( Figs. 1–2 View Fig View Fig ), male, dissected, deposited in FMNH, labeled as: (1) “m#[male sign]\ Aleochara repe -\ tita. D.S.\San Felix Panama \Champion.” [old card with syntype glued, manuscript]; (2) “San Feliz,\ Panama.\Champion.” [old white label, printed in black]; (3) “B.C.A. Col. I. 2.\ Aleochara \ repetita ,\Sharp.” [old white label, printed in black]; (4) “Sharp Coll.\1905.-313.” [old white label, printed in black]; (5) “Chicago Nat. Hist. Mus.\(ex. D. Sharp Colln.\by exchange with\Brit. Mus. Nat. Hist.)” [white label, printed in black]; (6) “[QR Code] FMNHINS/2840577/ FIELD MUSEUM \Pinned” [white label, printed in black]; (7) “ Aleochara ( Xenochara \ repetita \ Det., Moussallem, 2014” [white label, first two lines handwritten, third printed in black].

In the original description, Sharp (1887) cited “San Feliz”, but the first label of the syntype states “San Felix”. In his work, Sharp did not cite how many specimens he observed. We examined one male deposited in FMNH that was exchanged with the British Museum of Natural History ( BMNH, London , UK). In the BMNH, there are five syntypes from Panama, San Feliz : three males (one labeled as lectotype by Klimaszewski 1982, but not published), one female, and one sex not determined. We did not find any syntype from Pará, mentioned by Sharp as “Amazons, Pará ”. 704 Additional Material. Deposited in DZUP: 284 yellowish pubescence on antennomeres 5–11; scape, specimens from Brazil, Pará, Uruará , II-X-2015, pedicel, and antennomere 3–4 longer than wide; collected using pitfall traps baited with banana, or antennomere 5 subquadrate; antennomeres 6–10 meat, or feces, Reinaldo and/or Wully and/or Lucas slightly wider than long, gradually increasing in and/or Sidi, col.; 1 specimen from Brazil, Distrito width towards apex; antennomere 11 longer than Federal , Planaltina , XI-2008 - III-2009, T. Bernardes , wide, almost as long as 2 preceding antennomeres col., DZUP311291 View Materials ; 9 specimens from Brazil, Paraná, combined. Labrum transverse. Mandibles sym- Palotina, UFPR, VI-2011 - XII-2012, collected using metrical, without internal teeth. Caron, col. mere; 2 nd and 3 rd palpomeres equal in length, each

Diagnosis. Aleochara repetita is very similar to longer than 4 th. Labial palpus with 3 palpomeres Aleochara opacula Bernhauer, 1901 , from which it and with minute pseudopalpomere; 1 st palpomere differs in the strongly sinuate and deeply U-shaped longest, others decreasing in length toward apex; posterior margin of female tergite VIII ( Fig. 6 View Figs ) and ligula bifid. Gular plate broad. Thorax: Pronotum the spermatheca with a somewhat globose chamber transverse; posterior margin broadly arcuate; densely ( Fig. 8 View Figs ). The male of A. opacula is unknown. The pubescent, with few setae directed posteriad in male of A. repetita has the posterior margin of tergite midline of disc, directed posteriad and laterad VIII serrate and emarginate ( Fig. 3 View Figs ), and the median elsewhere. Elytra as long as pronotum; wider than lobe of the aedeagus is elongate, curved ventrally, long; densely pubescent, pubescence directed pos- and the apex strongly projected ventrally in lateral teriad. Hind wings well-developed. Mesoventrite view ( Fig. 5 View Figs ). completely carinate, mesoventral process pointed

Redescription. Male. Maximum body length: and longer than metaventral process, both joined. 7.0 mm, maximum elytral width 1.5 mm. Body Tarsal formula 5-5-5. Abdomen: Gradually narcompact and robust ( Fig. 1 View Fig ); brownish to dark rowed posteriad; tergites III–IV deeply transversely brown, with elytra (except posterolateral regions), and impressed in basally, tergites V–VI shallowly appendices, and abdominal apex (apical half of impressed basally; tergite VIII with posterior margin segment VII and VIII–X) lighter to rust-brown. serrate and emarginate ( Fig. 3 View Figs ); sternite VIII with Dorsal surface glossy; pubescent, appearing yel- posterior margin slightly emarginate ( Fig. 4 View Figs ); tergite lowish brown in artificial light; setigerous pores IX with asymmetrical ventral struts; sternite IX 3 impressed. Head: Approximately circular; frons times longer than wide and apex largely arcuate; triangularly produced and sharply pointed; pubes- tergite X longer than wide, posterior margin deeply cence directed anteriad and mediad; eyes large and and broadly emarginate. Median lobe of aedeagus slightly prominent; twice length of temples; neck elongate, curved ventrally and apex strongly proabsent. Antennae long, reaching base of elytra; dense, jecting ventrally in lateral view ( Fig. 5 View Figs ).

Female. Similar to male, except tergite VIII with posterior margin not serrated, but deeply U-shaped and strongly sinuate ( Fig. 6 View Figs ); tergite IX without ventral struts; each hemisternite IX fused with each ventral lobe of tergite IX, at least on base ( Fig. 7 View Figs ); spermatheca with L-curved capsule, globose chamber and irregularly twisted duct ( Fig. 8 View Figs ).

Geographical Records. The species was originally described from Panama and Pará (northern Brazil). Here, we extend its geographical range to midwestern (Distrito Federal and southwestern (Paraná) Brazil.

Taxonomic Notes. Aleochara repetita shares most characters with members of the puberula species-group as defined by Klimaszewski and Ashe (1992), except for the straight venter of the median lobe of the aedeagus. Among the species of the puberula species-group, A. repetita is very similar to A. opacula, from which it differs by the characters mentioned in Diagnosis. Aleochara repetita and A. opacula differ from the other species of the puberula species-group by the characters listed in Klimaszewski and Maus (1999).

Aleochara repetita was previously affiliated within the subgenus Baryodma Thomson, 1858 by Bernhauer and Scheerpeltz (1926). Later, it was treated as Coprochara Mulsant and Rey, 1874, by Caron et al. (2008), since Baryodma was considered a synonym of Coprochara in Gouix and Klimaszewski (2007). However, in Bernhauer and Scheerpeltz (1926) and Caron et al. (2008), no morphological characters were used to justify its subgeneric affiliation. Here, we transfer A. repetita to the subgenus Xenochara because its body is evenly pubescent, pubescence on the elytra is directed straight posteriorly, antennomeres 6–10 are moderately transverse, and the mesoventrite process is fully carinate (Klimaszewski and Maus 1999).

Biological Notes. The specimens of A. repetita were collected in pitfall traps baited with banana, meat, or feces as baits, in unbaited pitfall traps near a pig carcass, and manually from a pig carcass.
