Lenothrix canus Miller 1903

Lenothrix canus Miller 1903 , Proc. U. S. Natl. Mus ., 26 (1317): 466.

Type Locality: Indonesia, Pulau Tuangku (west of Sumatra).

Vernacular Names: Sundaic Lenothrix.

Synonyms: Lenothrix malaisia (Kloss 1931) .

Distribution: Malay Peninsula, Penang Isl, Tuangku Isl, and Borneo ( Sarawak, Sabah, and SW Kalimantan); Musser (1981 a) and references cited below.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Historical allocations of canus to species-clusters now defined as Rattus , Diplothrix , or Maxomys , as well as comparisons between L. canus and other Sundaic endemics documented by Musser (1981 a, b) and Musser and Newcomb (1983). It is an arboreal species occupying lowland and foothill secondary and primary forests on the Malay Peninsula ( Muul and Lim, 1971), and has been taken at 550 m on the slopes of Mt Kinabalu in Sabah ( Md Nor, 2001). The Kalimantan record, from Gunung Palung National Park, was noted by Blundell (1996:258) and verified by A. J. Gorog (pers. comm.), who examined the specimen.
