Eulimnadia insularis ( Rogers and Cruz-Rivera, 2020) View in CoL

A new species of clam shrimp ( Spinicaudata : Limnadiidae ) from St. Thomas and St. John has been recently described by the authors ( Rogers and Cruz-Rivera 2020). It was found in artificial impoundments (water hazards) at the Herman E. Moore Golf Course in St. Thomas during this study. Previous records ( Muchmore 1993; Smith and Wier 1999; Smith and Little 2003) reported this species (unrecognised) from St. John, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica. Muchmore (1993) had reported this species as E. diversa Mattox, 1937 .

Bass and de Silva (2010) report, with a very clear photograph, a clam shrimp from Mayreau Island ( St. Vincent and the Grenadines), which they inexplicably identify in their table as ‘ Eocyzius? sp.’ sic and in the photograph legend as ‘ Spinicaudata eocyzinus ’ sic. While it would appear that the identification they were trying to make was ‘ Eocyzicus ’, the photo clearly depicts a specimen of Eulimnadia . The egg morphology provides the only reliable species level characters for this genus ( Rogers et al. 2012), and while the eggs (which are visible in the Bass and de Silva [2010] image through the carapace) are similar to those of E. insularis , there is insufficient detail to separate their specimen from other Neotropical species with cylindrical eggs ( Rogers et al. 2021).
