Perinereis cultrifera ( Grube, 1840) View in CoL species complex

Perinereis cultrifera View in CoL . Fauvel 1932: 104 –106; Fauvel 1953: 206 –209, fig. 106a–l.

Material examined. Iran, Persian Gulf, Qeshm Island- Tola village , one specimen ( ZUTC 6142 ). Habitat. Sandy- stony beach.

Remarks. The single specimen fits the general concept of species described as varieties of P. cultrifera by Fauvel (1932, 1953), which are now all considered distinct species ( Hutchings et al. 1991). However, initial observations indicate that the specimen does not agree with any members of the species complex reported from the region ( Wehe & Fiege 2002); it is certainly distinguishable from P. floridana ( Ehlers, 1868) , P. striolata Grube, 1878 , P. obfuscata Grube, 1878 , P. perspicillata Grube, 1878 , P. helleri , and P. cultrifera ( Grube, 1840) by the number and shape of paragnaths in Areas V and VI.
