Diagnosis. Agrilus sphenopterus  sp. nov. is very similar to A. suturistriatus  sp. nov. by general appearance; color, narrow elytral apices and by elytral pubescence in form of sutural wedge. The most reliable character for distinguishing both species is the shape of aedeagus.

Type material. Type locality: Malaysia, Perak, 25 km NE Ipoh, 1200 m, Banjaran Titi Wangsa Mountains, Mount Korbu, [01°40'19”N, 101°17'49”E]. Type specimens. Holotype ♂ ( FWPC): “ Malaysia, Perak prov. , 25 km NE Ipoh, 1200 m, Banjaran Titi Wangsa mts. , Korbu Mt. , 1–2.ii.1999, P. Pacholátko leg.”GoogleMaps  .

Distribution. Malaysia (Perak).

Etymology. The specific name is a combination of the Greek adjective sphenoid (wedge shaped) and suffix – ptera derived from pterón (wing). It refers to the markedly cunneate shape of elytra.
