Lucaina schini Dugès 1879: 180 . Bourgeois 1891: 348; Herrera 1896: 53; Kleine 1933: 105; Blackwelder, 1945: 351; Arnett 1974: 2.

Lucania schini ; Zaragoza 1999: 13 (lapsus calami).

Type Material. Lectotype female (designated to preserve stability of nomenclature, in accordance with ICZN (1999) Art. 74.7, hereby designated): Colección; E. Duges.; Silao - gto; 667 D-397/ Holotipo. Lucania [sic]; schini ; Dugès/ LECTOTYPE; Lucaina schini Dugès, 1879 ; det. V.S. Ferreira 2017. ( UNAM). Photograph examined.

Diagnosis. Lucaina schini can be identified among other Lucaina by the complete dorsal yellow coloration (some specimens may have dark spots on pronotal disc) ( Fig. 1 View Figs ), the short rostrum, transverse and short labrum ( Fig. 8 View Figs ), maxillary palpomere 4 and labial palpomere 3 notched apically, and male genitalia with the median lobe as long as parameres, apex of median lobe slender, and the ventral base of parameres short ( Fig. 16 View Figs ).

Redescription of Adult. Width across humeri 2.0–3.0 mm.; elytral length 6.0–7.0 mm. Dorsal color varying from completely yellow to partially yellow, occasionally with black spots on pronotal disc or dark ventral thorax, abdomen, and antennae ( Fig. 1 View Figs ). Head prolonged in short rostrum, coronal sulci strongly prominent ( Fig. 8 View Figs ). Eyes small, finely faceted, not approximate. Mandibles short, slightly curved, connate to transverse, short labrum. Maxillary palpomere IV and labial palpomere III broad, notched apically. Antennae subserrate, slightly dorsoventrally flattened, inserted below eyes, with antenniferous tubercles pronounced. Antennomere I subconical, antennomere II about half length of I, antennomere III subequal in length to I; IVabout 1/4 longer than III, V subequal to IV, antennomeres VII–XI gradually decreasing in length. Pronotum as long as wide, margins slightly pronounced, thin, angles rounded, pair of subtle oblique elevations arising from posterior lateral margins of pronotum. Elytra subparallel, lateral margins stout, with 4 elytral costae weakly visible, pubescence decumbent. Ventrite VII of females with moderately rounded, shallow notch on apical region, forming 2 separated, rounded, closely approximate apices ( Fig. 22 View Figs ). Male genitalia subparallel, median lobe as long as parameres, apex slender, ventral base of parameres shortened ( Fig. 16 View Figs )

Biology. Lucaina schini specimens were collected on Schinus molle L. ( Anacardiaceae ).

Distribution. Puebla, Mexico ( Fig. 26 View Figs ).

Material Examined in Addition to Type Specimen. 16, 1♀: Lucaina ; schini ; Dugès/ B.C.A. Coll. III. (2); Lucaina ; schini ; Dugès/ Mexico./ Salle Col ( BMNH). 16: MEXICO: Puebla; 4.4 mi. sw. Acatepec; July 9, 1977; J. C. Schaffner/ R.S.Miller; Collection ( MTEC). 16: Lucaina schini Dugès, E. Dug. / [on a red label]? Cotype; Lucaina schini Dug. ; sent to CVR ( USNM).

Notes. The USNM specimen is labeled in Dugès’ handwriting, but his description clearly states he had a single female specimen, so the USNM male specimen is not a cotype in spite of the label. It was apparently sent to Charles Valentine Riley.
