Plonaphacarus longicarinatus sp. nov.

( Figs 3. A–E View FIGURE 3. A – E )

Diagnosis. Long lateral carinae of prodorsum. Sensilli long, with club-like head. Lamellar setae long (as long as half of length of interlamellar setae), distally obtuse. Exobothridial setae minute. Setae ad1 and ad2 longer than anal setae, bent distally.

Description. Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 222, width 156, height 96, sensillus 48, setae: interlamellar 88, lamellar 45, rostral 48, exobothridial 10; notogaster: length 429, width 293, height 278, setae: c1 and h1 88, p1 76; genitoaggenital plate 116 x71; anoadanal plate 164 x76. Measurements of the paratype: prodorsum: length 242, width 172, height 96; notogaster: length 465, width 303, height 293.

Colour light brown. Integument finely punctate.

Prodorsum with distinct sigillar fields. Lateral carinae long, reach the anterior part of prodorsum. Sensilli long, with club-like head covered with cilia. Interlamellar and lamellar setae erect, spinose in distal half, interlamellar setae pointed distally, lamellar distally obtuse, rostral setae spiniform, smooth; exobothridial setae minute; in>ro>le> ex.

Notogaster with 15 pairs of rigid setae, relatively short (c1<c1-d1), covered with small spines in distal half; dorsal setae slightly longer than lateral; setae c1 and c3 near anterior margin, setae c2 far from margin. Vestigial setae f1 not observed. Two pairs of lyrifissures, ia and im, present.

Ventral region. Setae h of mentum longer than distance between them. Formula of genital setae: 6(4+2): 3. Anoadanal plates with setae ad1 and ad2 longest, curved distally.

Legs setation complete. Seta d of femora I slightly remote from distal end of article.

Types. Holotype and one paratype: BO-3.

Comparison. The new species is distinguishable from congeners by the presence of following character states in combination: long lateral carinae of prodorsum; presence of long lamellar setae (as long as half of length of interlamellar setae), distally obtuse; setae ad1 and ad2 longer than anal setae, bent distally. Plonaphacarus kugohi ( Aoki, 1959) shares two of these characters: long lateral carinae of prodorsum and setae ad1 and ad2 longer than anal setae, bent distally.

Etymology. The specific epithet longicarinatus refers to the presence of long lateral carinae on the prodorsum.
