Dolichopus spretus Loew, 1871 View in CoL

Dolichopus spretus Loew, 1871: 259 View in CoL

The type locality of Dolichopus spretus View in CoL is Västergötland, Sweden ( Negrobov 1991). Like the previous species, it is characterised by very small male genitalia, a broad face and the absence of secondary sexual characters typical for the genus. In all aspects it is close to D. vitripennis Meigen. View in CoL D. spretus View in CoL has been found in Sweden (the type locality), West Siberia and Russian Far East ( Negrobov 1991). Parent (1938), Negrobov (1991), Grichanov (2004) and Yang et. al. (2006) treated it as a valid species. D. spretus View in CoL appears to be yet another nematode-induced aberration, but no material was available for study and the status of this species could not be confirmed. It is probably a synonym of D. vitripennis View in CoL , but the possibility of synonymy with D. fraterculus View in CoL cannot be excluded, since the latter species has occasionally very dark, blackish femora like D. vitripennis View in CoL .
