Mesonotum with two narrow brown or grayish brown stripes along dc rows, rarely absent; 3 dc, with anteriormost dc variable in position (before or at or behind transverse suture); acr in 4–6 irregular rows, uniformly short hair–like. Wing with five brown spots; preapical spot on R2+3 and apical spot on R4+5 extending upward to costal margin; subapical spot on M1 smaller than either of them; narrow brown stripes on r-m and on dm-cu. Abdomen yellow to brownish yellow.

Frons as long as wide and parallel-sided, without brown stripes; ocellar triangle grayish brown; oc developed, longer than posterior or; anterior or shorter than posterior or; gena as high as 2/5 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere 1.2 times longer than height; arista dark except brownish basally, pubescent, with longest setulae shorter than 1/3 height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis yellow, with yellowish and blackish setulae; palpus yellow on basal 1/2, black on apical 1/2, with blackish setulae.

Thorax ( Figs. 19–21 View FIGURES 17 – 23 , 27–29 View FIGURES 24 – 33 ) yellow. Mesonotum with grayish white pruinosity, two narrow brown or grayish brown stripes along dc rows (sometimes distinctly gray between the paired stripes, or not evident in the syntypes and several specimens from USNM); 3 dc with position of anteriormost dc variable (including three configurations: at transverse suture; slightly behind or before suture; distinctly behind transverse suture); acr in 4–6 irregular rows, uniformly short hair–like; prsc longer than anteriormost dc; anepisternum and katepisternum yellow with pale grayish pruinosity; 1 anepst, 2 kepst. Scutellum yellow, with sparse white grayish pruinosity. Legs yellow. Fore femur with 2–3 strong pv, 5–6 pd, and ctenidium with 7–9 short setae; fore tibia with 1 preapical d and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 4 a; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical d and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with 2–4 av on apical 1/ 3 and 1 preapical d; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 short apv. Halter pale yellow.

Abdomen ( Figs. 19–21 View FIGURES 17 – 23 , 30–31 View FIGURES 24 – 33 ) yellow to brownish yellow. Male genitalia ( Figs. 34–38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ): surstylus with a narrow knife–like curved apical process in lateral view; hypandrium with special shape, with very short hypandrial apodeme; gonopod slender with a short subbasal setula; aedeagal sclerites each with a semicircular apical concavity in lateral view; aedeagal apodeme long.

Remarks. About the species Homoneura alini Hering , three syntypes (MNHU) and two syntypes labeled as “ paratypes ” (NHMW) were studied. After dissecting the male genitalia of the NHMW syntype, the characteristics of the male genitalia were found to be the same as Homoneura (Homoneura) brevicornis (Kertész) illustrated by Sasakawa & Ikeuchi (1982) and herein ( Figs. 34–38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ). In the several specimens (USNM) and type specimens (HNHM) of H. (H.) brevicornis , the position of the anteriormost dc, the brown stripes and the grayish area between two stripes of the mesonotum are variable. In the syntypes of H. alini , the above-mentioned variable characters were also observed, so we propose that the species Homoneura alini is a junior subjective synonym of H. (H.) brevicornis ( Kertész, 1915) . This follows Shatalkin (1995), who included H. alini as questionably the same species as H. brevicornis in his key.
