Nesophontes superstes Fischer 1977 View in CoL , Z. geol. Wiss., Berlin, 5: 221.

Type Locality: Cuba, Pinar del Rio Province, Sumerido, Cueva de la Ventana.

Vernacular Names: Cuban Nesophontes.

Distribution: Cuba.

Conservation: Extinct.

Discussion: A large species known only from a mandible found on the surface of a cave in association with Rattus . Its relation to N. major needs to be studied. Fischer (1977) speculated that the species might still be extant and gave it the name superstes (surviving). Listed by MacPhee et al. (1999) as part of the endemic Antillean fauna.
