Genus Paraxerus Forsyth Major, 1893

Two species of green squirrels are already recorded in Cameroon. Paraxerus poensis (A. Smith, 1830) is the smallest, the holotype comes from Bioko ( Equatorial Guinea) and it is widely distributed in West Central Africa. The largest species, P. cooperi Hayman, 1950 , was described from the Rumpi Hills and Banso mountains of Bamenda region, it is considered as Vulnerable by IUCN (2012).
