Hirundo leucopyga Lichtenstein

This is a label name, created by Martin Hinrich Carl Lichtenstein (1780–1857). It existed prior to 1835 because Meyen (1834: 73) knew it had been applied to a Tachycineta swallow collected at Montevideo, Uruguay (which later became a syntype of Hirundo leucopyga Meyen, 1834 – see below). The name has never been published in a manner required by the ICZN (1999). It is thus a pure nomen nudum, which does not enter into competition with the names available for nomenclatural purposes. Hence, it does not preoccupy Hirundo leucopyga Meyen, 1834 (see also Hellmayr 1932: 48, 1935: 76).
