Diagnosis. Wing with apical spots on R2+3, R4+5 and/or M1, brown apical spots on R4+5 and M1 often confluent; a brown spot present between r-m and apical spot on R4+5, brown spots on r-m and dm-cu; occasionally subcostal cell dark apically, but never distinct spot at tip of S C and R1. Abdomen without spot. Male genitalia: surstylus with 1–2 processes; hypandrium Y or H-shaped and hypandrial apodeme short; pregonite and postgonite without setulae; aedeagus wide apically in ventral view.

The species group is similar to H. Also it is similar to H. (H.) bistriata group, but the latter has the following characters: a distinctive brown spot present at tip of Sc and R1, the male tergites 3–6 or 5–6 having a brown medial spot or stripe.
