Basionym: Graphis rustica Krempelhuber, Nuovo Giorn. Bot. Ital. View in CoL 7: 61 (1875).

Type :— SINGAPORE. Ad cortices, Beccari 258 (M!, lectotype, designated by Archer 2006: 83) .

Thallus corticolous, whitish, off-white or pale grayish green, continuous, smooth, slightly uneven or tuberculate, corticate, dull. Lirellae prominent, with a thick lateral thalline margin, short to elongate, up to 8 mm long, straight or curved, simple or irregularly branched, labia convergent, entire, black, disc concealed, ( marginata -morph). Exciple completely carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, transversely 11–17-septate, 65–85 × 8–11 μm, ( Lücking et al. 2009).

Chemistry: stictic acid (major), constictic acid (minor), (anal. M. Nakanishi, on annotation label attached to lectotype specimen).

Distribution and habitat:—Pantropical, reported from Dominica, Mauritius, Singapore (type locality), China, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Australia (all reports from Archer 2009), Indonesia ( Lücking et al. 2009), Costa Rica ( Lücking et al. 2008), Africa ( Joshi et al. 2016) and for the first time from Thailand, Loei province from 14 localities where is was growing in lower montane scrubs and a dry dipterocarp forest between 700 and 1500 m ( Poengsungnoen 2010). It was not present in our collections.

Remarks:—This species is well charcterized in having marginata -morph lirellae, a completely carbonized exciple, a clear hymenium, transversely septate, medium-sized ascospores and stictic acid as a major metabolite.
