status

* Graphis kelungana Zahlbruckner (1933: 208) .

Type:— FORMOSA [Taiwan]. Kelung , ad cortices laeves, 13 May 1903, Faurie 30 (W!) .

Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 .

Thallus corticolous, yellowish gray, light olive gray, olive-brown or whitish, continuous, smooth, glossy. Lirellae erumpent with lateral to ± complete thalline margin, short to elongate, straight, curved or sinuous, sparsely to irregularly branched, labia convergent, entire, black, not pruinose or whitish pruinose along the slit, partly covered by a very thin thallus, disc closed, not visible from above, (subserpentina- morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium inspersed (type A); ascospores (2–) 4–8/ascus, hyaline, transversely 13–15-septate, 40–60 × 10–12 μm.

Chemistry: stictic acid (major), constictic acid (minor) (anal. K. Kalb).

Distribution and habitat:—Eastern palaeotropical, reported from Taiwan (type locality) and here from Thailand for the first time, where it is growing on deciduous trees in a secondary forest along the beach.

Remarks:—It was difficult to find well-developed ascospores in our material which may explain the many asci with less than 8 spores. We found no further records of this species since its description.

Material from Thailand examined:— Ranong Province: Suk Samran district, side road from Phetkasem Road ( Road #4) to Praphat beach, area of Had Samran , 2 m, 09°21’54’ N, 98°23’46’ E, 7 June 2015, J. Sutjaritturakan 4987 & K. Kalb (hb. K. Kalb 41553) .
