Graphis novopalmicola A.W. Archer & Lücking View in CoL , in: Lücking et al. (2009: 439).

nom. nov. pro Graphina palmicola Müller Arg. (1887: 402) .

Type:— AUSTRALIA. Queensland: Trinity Bay, Sayer s.n. ( G!, holotype) .

Thallus corticolous, gray to pale green-gray orpale fawn, continuous, smooth to uneven, corticate, dull. Lirellae erumpent, with thick lateral thalline margin, elongate, up to 5 mm long, straight, curved or sinuous, simple or irregularly branched, labia convergent, entire, disc concealed, (subserpentina- morph). Exciple completely carbonized; hymenium strongly inspersed (type A); ascospores 1/ascus, hyaline, densely muriform, with 35–55 transverse septa and 2–10 longitudinal septa, (60–) 85–160 × (16–) 22–45 μm.

Chemistry: norstictic acid (major), ± connorstictic acid (minor).

Distribution and habitat:—Reported from Africa ( Joshi et al. 2016), Australia (type locality) and from Thailand for the first time by Poengsungnoen et al. (2010) from a lower montane scrub in Loei province (Northeast Thailand). As we collected G. novopalmicola in three provinces in South Thailand, it is probably widely distributed in this country. It is growing preferably on various useful trees in plantations from 3 to 40 m elevation.

Remarks:—Archer (2009) put Graphis novopalmicola (as Graphina palmicola ) into synonymy with G. cycasicola (see above), but the latter species has a non-inspersed hymenium.
