Graphis consimilis Vainio (1907: 177) .

Type:— THAILAND. Trat province: Kho Chang island, prope Lem Dan in Sinu Bengalensi , ad corticem Arecae catechu, J. Schmidt 17 (TUR-Vainio 27256!, holotype) .

Thallus corticolous, off-white, whitish gray to greenish gray, continuous, smooth, dull. Lirellae erumpent to prominent with basal thalline margin, elongate, straight or, unbranched or very sparsely branched, labia convergent, entire, black, not pruinose, disc concealed ( hossei -morph). Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium clear; ascospores 8/ascus, hyaline, muriform, 8–10 × 1–4-septate, 28–40 × 10–11 μm (protologue and remarks on the type specimen).

Chemistry: no lichen substances present.

Distribution and habitat:—Eastern Palaeotropics, reported from Thailand (type locality), the Philippines ( Schumm & Aptroot 2012) and Papua New Guinea ( Aptroot & Sparrius 2008 –present).

Remarks:—This is obviously a rare lichen in Thailand (only known from the type collection). It is characterized by its erumpent to prominent, mostly unbranched lirellae with a basal thalline margin, a laterally carbonized exciple, a clear hymenium and muriform, relatively small ascospores. It was not present in our collections.
