DISTRIBUTION: S. Illinois east to N. Virginia, and south through E. Texas and Florida ( U.S.A.).
COMMENT: For specific status see Handley, 1979; Tate et al., 1980, Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 93:50- 60. Hall, 1981:54, listed carolinensis as a subspecies of brevicauda .
