TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Jalisco, near San Sebastian, Mtns, near Milpillas .

DISTRIBUTION: Nayarit to Oaxaca ( Mexico).

COMMENT: Formerly included in Notiosorex ; see Repenning, 1967:56 and review by Armstrong and Jones, 1972, Mamm. Species, 16: 12, who considered Megasorex a distinct genus; see also Hall, 1981:65-66, who included gigas in Notiosorex without comment.
