TYPE LOCALITY: U.S.A., Washington, Pacific Co., Shoalwater Bay .
DISTRIBUTION: Riparian and montane areas of the northern Great Basin and Columbia Plateau, north to S. British Columbia and Vancouver Isl. ( Canada); east to W. Montana, W. Wyoming, Wasatch Mtns. (N. Utah); C. Nevada to Sierra Nevadas, (Calif.) and south to San Francisco Bay ( U.S.A.); possibly Transvolcanic Belt (=Transverse Volcanic Belt) in Mexico.
COMMENT: Includes trigonirostris ; see Hennings and Hoffmann, 1977, Occas. Pap. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas, 68:8. S. v. orizabae of Mexico may be conspecific with S. oreopolus ; see comments under oreopolus , and Junge and Hoffmann, 1981:43.
