Type species. Rhynchoplax messor Stimpson, 1858 , subsequent designation by Kemp (1917).

Remarks. Rhynchoplax has been treated as a junior synonym of Halicarcinus since the family revision of Lucas (1980). The genus is resurrected and rediagnosed by Poore et al. (2016), which is being published concurrently.
