Dihammaphora falsa View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figure 1 View Figure 1 A–C) Diammaphora nigrita ; Mermudes and Napp, 2004: 268, fig. 121 (non Chevrolat, 1859).

Description

Male. Entirely black. Frons and clypeus densely rugose-punctate, clothed by whitish pubescence. Vertex with dense, whitish pubescence at sides between upper eye lobes. Genae and margin of lower eye lobes sparser whitish pubescent.

Antennae exceeding middle of elytra by almost three segments. Segments 3–5 subcylindrical, practically not expanded at apex; sparsely whitish pubescent with scattered apical setae. Segments from 6 denser whitish pubescent, with whitish, erect, conspicuous setae; 6–8 subserrate, decreasing in length; 9, 10 shortest and somewhat swollen; 11 suboval, as long as 3.

Prothorax very sparsely whitish pubescent or glabrous; either subparallel at sides, or sinuous before and behind middle, barely wider or subtuberculate at middle. Disk of pronotum raised at apical half and depressed between the latero-basal gibbosities, which are prominent and subacute. Prosternum with fine, shallow, very sparse punctures; apical margin sinuate, slightly projected at middle ( Figure 1B View Figure 1 ).

Elytra subparallel at sides. Disk somewhat depressed, more so at base; dorsal costa prominent from base almost to apex. Moderately coarsely, densely punctuate, punctures vaguely seriate, separated by less than one diameter, becoming finer, denser to almost corrugate at apical third; a single row of punctures between dorsal and lateral costae, except at base and at apical third with two rows or irregularly distributed punctures. Whitish, short pubescence not obscuring integument, and whitish, erect setae, more evident along suture, costae and at apical third. Margins weakly asperate. Elytral apices rounded-truncate.

Inner side of each procoxa with a small, unciform projection with apex turned down and inwards ( Figure 1B,C View Figure 1 ). Peduncles of femora evidently sulcate. Metafemora

surpassing elytral apices by apical third of club. Metatibiae straight. First segment of metatarsi 1.3 times as long as following two combined.

Female. Similar to male. Antennae exceeding middle of elytra by one or two segments. Prothorax more sinuous at sides, even subtuberculate at middle. Metafemora not reaching elytral apex.

Measurements (mm) male/female. Total length, 6.0–6.6/6.9–7.4; prothorax length, 1.4–1.6/1.7–1.8; maximum width of prothorax, 0.9–1.1/1.2–1.3; elytral length, 4.2– 4.5/4.8–4.7; humeral width, 1.2–1.4/1.5–1.7.

Remarks

Dihammaphora falsa View in CoL sp. nov. is usually misidentified as D. nigrita Chevrolat, 1859 in the collections. However, D. nigrita has 10-segmented antennae according to the examined slide of the holotype, deposited in BMNH. The new species differentiates from the other species with 11 antennal segments by its entirely black colour, procoxae with unciform projections and anterior margin of prosternum projected at middle. The latter two characters are also found in D. uncinata View in CoL sp. nov., recorded from São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The two species may be differentiated by the characters given in the key.

Etymology

From Latin: falsus, false, untruth; in reference to its false similarity with D. nigrita .
