Description

Male (?). Integument black; prothorax reddish. Frons conspicuously impressed on each side near base; clothed by silky, yellowish pubescence, denser at sides. Vertex subglabrous, almost impunctate between eyes. Clypeus sparsely yellowish pubescent. Margin of lower eye lobes and mandibles with whitish pubescence.

Antennae exceeding middle of elytra by two segments. Segments 3–5 cylindrical, barely expanded at apex, with some short, poorly conspicuous, apical setae; segments from 6 opaque, with whitish pubescence gradually denser to distal segments, and scattered setae; 6 little longer than 5, more expanded at apical third, 7, 8 subcylindrical, slightly expanded at apex, 9, 10 shortest and somewhat swollen; 11 suboval, as long as 3.

Prothorax somewhat rounded at sides, slightly and gradually attenuate to base and apex, barely, sinuously narrowed behind middle. Pronotum without setae at apical half; latero-basal gibbosities rounded, somewhat prominent. Mesosternum, metasternum and urosternites densely clothed by silky, olivaceous pubescence totally obscuring integument.

Scutellum clothed by olivaceous pubescence. Elytra subparallel at sides. Disk strongly depressed, especially at base and along dorsal costae, which are prominent from base almost to apex and slightly curved inwards at apex. Surface densely clothed by silky, olivaceous pubescence almost completely obscuring punctures that seem to be dense and vaguely seriate. One row of punctures between dorsal and lateral costae, except at apical third irregularly punctuated; clothed by olivaceous pubescence obscuring punctures. With short, erect, whitish setae, evident along costae and suture, and scattered all over the surface. Punctures of epipleura almost completely obscured by olivaceous pubescence. Margins weakly asperate at apical third. Elytral apices truncate.

Peduncles of femora somewhat stout, subdepressed, evidently sulcate and bicarinate. Metafemora surpassing elytral apices by the apex of club. Tibiae depressed, with moderately dense, asperate punctures, each with an erect, whitish setae. First segment of metatarsi 1.3 times as long as the following two combined.

Measurements (mm) holotype. Total length, 7.5; prothorax length, 1.9; maximum width of prothorax, 1.3; elytral length, 5.0; humeral width, 1.6.

Type material

Holotype male (?) from Brazil, Minas Gerais: Pedra Azul (700 m), November 1972, Seabra and Oliveira col. ( MNRJ).

Remarks

By body colour, and elytra densely clothed by pubescence with entire dorsal costa, D. mineira sp. nov. is similar to D. chontalensis and differentiates by the characters given in the key. In addition, D. chontalensis has been recorded only from Central America, while the new species is known only from the type-locality, related to the Atlantic forest.

Etymology

From Portuguese mineiro, meaning inhabitant of the State of Minas Gerais.
