Type: — AFRICA. “ Africae australis colonia Capensi prope Graafreynet , in montosis scopulosis, altit 3000-4000 ped.” [currently South Africa], Cape province, August 1839, fl., J.F. Drège s.n. (lectotype, designated here, K barcode 000243053!; isolectotypes HAL herbarium number 0110044!, HAL herbarium number 110045!, MO herbarium number 2027180!, REG barcode 000926!, S-G herbarium number 1257!) .

Syntype: —AFRICA, “Secus flumen Gariep” [currently Orange River], without date, Burke s.n. (missing material, not located by K’s curator) .

Nomenclatural notes: —When publishing the name C. eriantha, Planchon (1848) cited Drège s.n. and Burke s.n. syntypes from the Hookerianum herbarium. Seven specimens of Drège s.n. were located. No material from Burke s.n. was located. Two of the Drège s.n. specimens identified as C. eriantha were located in K (barcodes 000243046 and 000243053). Analyzing these specimens we observed the herbarium Hookerianum stamp on the specimen at Herb. K with barcode 000243053, and therefore designate this material as the lectotype of C. eriantha (ICN Art. 9.3).

Taxonomic notes: —Synonym of C. africana ( Sattarian et al. 2006) .
