TYPE LOCALITY: “ mares … in collibus ditionis parmensis , foeminam … montium agri Tridentini [males … Parmese hills, female … mountains of Trento’s territory ( Italy)]” .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Exorista (Podotachina) grandis ( Zetterstedt, 1844) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 123) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 185) described both sexes of Thricolyga major , without specifying the exact number of male specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Mares non frequenter legi … foeminam unicam [I infrequently collected males … I saw a single female]” he had collected and also received from S. Bertolini. We found six syntypes in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Thricolyga ”, which is an “incorrect original spelling of Tricoliga Rondani, 1856 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 179).
