REMARKS: Rondani (1861g: 392) described Sarcophaga proxima from just the male sex, giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by G. Mussino. In his redescription he specified (1862d: 125) having one specimen: “ Specimen unicum observavi [I observed a single specimen]”, received from G. Mussino. Pape (1988: 13) reported the holotype (♂) in the MZUF. Whitmore (2011: 45) reported having examined the MZUF holotype. The MZUF also contains three females (non-types) numbered “1041”.
