CURRENT STATUS: doubtful species of Sarcophaginae ( Verves 1986: 193) View in CoL ; junior synonym of Sarcophaga (Robineauella) caerulescens Zetterstedt, 1838 View in CoL ( Pape 1988: 10, 1996: 383).

REMARKS: Rondani (1861g: 387) described Sarcophaga matertera from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths. In his redescription Rondani (1862d: 108) reported three males, two that he had collected and one that he had received from S. Bertolini. Pape (1988: 10) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (2 ♂♂). A MZUF female numbered “1010” is not included in the type series because of its sex.
