CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Peck 1988: 122, Belcari et al. 1995a: 11).
REMARKS: Rondani (1844b: 198) described Ferdinandea aurea without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he stated: “ frequens [common]”. We found 11 syntypes in this study.
