Notes on the morphological variation. All male specimens with entirely black prothorax and dorsal yellow marking covering half of synthorax except for a male from Quang Nam Province with a small yellowish spot on middle of pronotal lobe and another male from the same locality with dorsal large spots extending two thirds length the synthorax. As Steinhoff & Uhl (2015) pointed out that the yellowish coloration is often only on S10, sometimes extending to posterior margin of S9 but in the males from following locations: Tay Giang of Quang Nam Province (2 males), Tuyen Hoa of Quang Binh Province (1 male), Pu Mat (1 male), Xuan Son (1 male) and Cuc Phuong NPs (1 male) respectively half of S9 is yellow. In a male from Pia Oac NP, the large oval antehumeral stripe is greenish, not yellowish as in other male specimens. Genital ligula structure of most specimens similar to male from Tam Dao NP in Steinhoff & Uhl (2015: fig. 5C–D) with apical fold strongly prominent although males from Cuc Phuong and Kon Ka Kinh NPs lack the apical fold. Finally, two males from Dak Roong Commune, Ka Bang District of Gia Lai Prov- ince with smooth apical flap of genital ligula as in lectotype of C. scutellum ( Steinhoff & Uhl 2015: fig. 5A–B).

Distribution in Vietnam. Lao Cai (Bao Ha Commune, Bao Yen District), Ha Giang (Viet Vinh), Cao Bang (Pia Oac NP), Bac Kan (Ba Be NP), Lang Son (Huu Lien NR), Phu Tho (Xuan Son NP), Hoa Binh (Mai Chau), Vinh Phuc (Tam Dao NP), Quang Ninh (Yen Tu NP), Ha Noi City (Ba Vi NP), Ninh Binh (Cuc Phuong NP), Thanh Hoa (Pu Luong NR), Ha Tinh (Vu Quang NP), Quang Binh (Thuong Hoa, Tuyen Hoa District), Thua Thien Hue (Bach Ma NP), Da Nang City (Son Tra & Ba Na Nui Chua NRs), Quang Nam (Bhalee Commune, Tay Giang District), Kon Tum (Kon Plong & Dak Glei Districts), Gia Lai (Kon Chu Rang NR & Kon Ka Kinh NP), Dak Lak (Chu Yang Sin NP) and Khanh Hoa (Hon Ba NR) Provinces ( Steinhoff & Uhl 2015; von Ellenrieder et al. 2015; this study).
